Unless of course you reside in a remote area of the country without any television, newspaper or any other people to speak to, there’s a high probability you’ve heard or find out about a house improvement scam or project gone wrong. It appears to become a fact within this country that when you are about carrying out a do it yourself project you can expect to encounter numerous problems, delays and shoddy work.
The house improvement experience leaves many people stressed and vowing not to do another project again! So it’s not surprising to listen to that do it yourself complaints rank towards the top of consumer complaints nationwide every year. Where will the blame be seduced by this epidemic of do it yourself problems?
I’m proud to state I had been a house improvement contractor for nearly 3 decades and that i was lucky enough to win a few of the industry’s greatest awards. However, it’s never stopped to amaze me poor people do it yourself decisions that I’ve come across a lot of homeowners make. One of the most notable mistakes I’d see done again and again was whenever a homeowner would blindly bring in help to perform a project since the person would be a friend or perhaps a friend of the friend. In my experience this reasoning is not sensible.
Friendship and craftsmanship aren’t related, but for whatever reason many people believe other wise. An execllent illustration of homeowner indifference is hiring anyone to perform a project without ever putting anything on paper. Who within their right mind would ever accept this type of disastrous situation? Another much the same blunder could be for any homeowner to blindly accept a quote on the rear of a card. Normally the only information which has room on the rear of a card may be the Cost.
A significant mistake made by a lot of carrying out a do it yourself project is letting cost dictate the conclusion on who to employ. More problems occur because homeowners select the cheapest cost possible. Why? It’s very simple. You are able to only produce a top quality project in a certain cost. Top quality materials, expert labor, appropriate insurances along with a reasonable profit in which to stay business, cost some money.
If a person can perform that very same project under that quantity, what is your opinion will happen once the job has been done? You heard right, the company or person can do what you can to earn profits. All the options that may derive from the individual you hired, because the low bidder, attempting to make an income, are merely all Harmful to the homeowner. Home based enhancements you receive precisely what you have to pay for.
Let us remember to place a few of the blame on people searching to operate in your home. Through the years I’ve come across a number of my competitors commit heinous business practices. (Surprise!!) I’ve come across contractors switch materials to lesser quality without customer approval, use unqualified labor, overcharge homeowners for “unforeseen problems”, attempt to up sell the client when the project starts, etc.,etc.,etc…….it can make you question if you’re able to trust anybody?
Where will the blame fall for the do it yourself complaints every year? I suppose it might be simple to blame the homeowner because of not educating on their own how to proceed when attemping a task. However required could be where will a homeowner get “educated”? Perhaps a better question could be when will a homeowner spare the time to obtain “educated”? Education is a superb tool if you possess the time for you to research. Many people not have the time or wish to take time to do hrs and hrs of research on how to pull off obtaining a do it yourself done properly.
